THE SUPREME COURT REDEFINES MARRIAGE

“What God has joined together, let not man separate.” This command from God declares His heart for the sanctity of marriage: God wants marriage – which He defined as between a man and a woman -- long before nations and governments existed – to be sacred and inviolable. This command likewise declares God’s heart for the institution of marriage. It is God’s law, found in both the Old and New Testament, woven into the fabric of His plan for mankind, and integral to the relationship between Christ... our Bridegroom, and the church... His Bride. “Man”, in the form of the United States Supreme Court, has violated God’s command... has desecrated both the sanctity and institution of marriage. Franklin Graham’s words are most appropriate here: “With all due respect to the court, it did not define marriage, and therefore is not entitled to re-define it ... God’s decisions are not subject to review or revision by any man-made court.” The Supreme Court has succumbed to the Tower of Babel syndrome in thinking it can ascend into the heavens... be like God.
Jesus said, in reference to His second coming, “As it was also in the days of Lot ... Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.” We need look no further then the “days of Lot”, to the horrific destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah – to God “making them an example to those who would live ungodly” – to know what God thinks about this ruling. This is a sign of the times we are living in... a major sign, and will lead to persecution as God’s Church is challenged to stay true to His word in a culture that knows not God and is increasingly hostile to His word. On a personal level we must, as saints of a holy God, love the lost with unconditional love, while being honest about where they stand before God. The danger is to allow the leaven of “Cheap Grace” to creep into our message in the name of love, compromising our message and their hope. (Gen. 2:24; Matt. 19:6; Mk. 10:9; 2 Peter 2:6; Jude 1:7)

THE ANOINTING

“The Anointing” is the label used by many Christians to describe a special “impartation”, another buzzword, of God’s power distinct and separate from the Holy Spirit Himself, often including physical manifestations, feelings and sensations. Anoint is an Old Testament concept, to rub, cover or smear with oil having both sacred and non-sacred applications, and has no new covenant application. The word “Anointing”, as use in 1 Jn. 2:20, 27, the Greek word chrisma, refers to an unguent (ointment) substance, a picture of the “Mishah godes”, the holy anointing oil of the old covenant, and is simply used here as a metaphor, another name for the Holy Spirit, as can clearly be seen in the context. The Holy Spirit is a person... a spirit person; He has no physical substance or He wouldn’t be a spirit. If we have Him, we have Him... we cannot parcel out a person! How much we experience the Holy Spirit is a product of our submission and our obedience. There is no impartation, portion, mantle, covering, etc., of God’s power separate and distinct from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit releases Himself, in dunamis power, individually to and through believers, as He wills. Believers can quench or grieve the Holy Spirit, disrupting His working in their life. Beyond this aspect of yielding, the Holy Spirit and His power cannot in any way be controlled, produced on demand, or transferred by believers. We must remember... the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead, another comforter just like Christ. When we attempt to peddle Him like a common commodity -- as if He indwelt trinkets or could be imputed in double or triple portions by the will of man -- we are, in essence, attempting to manhandle the Godhead and could incur the wrath of God... as Uzzah did. “The Anointing” has become a hot commodity, distracting from and quenching the vital work of the Holy Spirit – His purpose in our lives and reason He was sent – to Manifest Christ in us, our only hope of eternal Glory! This grieves the Holy Spirit of God.
