THE NATURE OF GOD ELEVEN: GENTLE
God is amazingly humble, meek,
kind, and gentle of heart. The Fruit of the Spirit which captures these virtues
are “Kindness”, from the Greek word chrestotes, and “Gentleness”, from the
Greek word “Praotes.” Kindness is the grace which pervades God’s whole
nature... His disposition, mellowing all that would be seen as harsh or
austere. God’s Kindness is the meek and gentle harmlessness of the Dove,
goodness expressing itself in our consideration... with tenderness and compassion.
Gentleness is an inwrought grace, a condition of the mind and heart of God
which demonstrates meekness... quiet, gentle and patient meekness, not in
weakness but in power, a balance born in strength of character and sureness of
sovereignty... Infinite power under perfect control. Gentleness is a tempering
of the Spirit, an unpretentious humbleness of heart that is considerate, kindly
and tender of disposition.
The experience of the love of
God that is manifested in Christ and shed abroad by the Spirit works itself out
as Kindness and Gentleness towards His children. God’s Kindness and Gentleness
are seen in many ways: * He is scandalously forgiving; He will never keep a
record of our sins... our stumbles... or our failings. * He looks beyond our faults
and weakness... sees and speaks to our potential, releasing us to fulfill His
will for us. * He delights in listening to us and helping us... loves to
comfort us. * He is faithful with our needs and considerate of our wants. * He is never demanding, preferring to
whisper rather than shout... gently guiding our way. * He is “for us”, wanting
us to have a hope and a future... with Him. * He is longsuffering...
extraordinarily patient, not willing that anyone be lost... pursuing us to
deaths very door in the hope of winning our heart. * He rejoices over us with
singing... lullabies of love, to quiet our worrisome heart. * He is the kindest and gentlest person to
have ever existed. God’s Kindness and Gentleness are the fruit of His power...
AS WE BEHOLD HIM...
WE BECOME LIKE HIM...
